Taylor County is a county located in the state of Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 8,906. The county seat is Butler. The county was created on December 15, 1852 and named for Zachary Taylor, the 12th President of the United States.
Geography
Taylor County is located in the west-central part of Georgia, approximately 100 miles south of Atlanta. It is bordered by Macon County to the north, Peach County to the east, Crawford County to the south, and Talbot County to the west. The county has a total area of 441 square miles, of which 439 square miles is land and 2 square miles (0.5%) is water.
The county is located in the Upper Flint River sub-basin of the ACF River Basin (Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin). The Flint River forms the western border of the county.

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 8,906 people, 3,521 households, and 2,521 families residing in the county. The population density was 20.3 inhabitants per square mile (7.8/km2). There were 4,093 housing units at an average density of 9.3 per square mile (3.6/km2). The racial makeup of the county was 68.2% white, 28.7% black or African American, 0.4% Asian, 0.3% American Indian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 2.2% of the population. In terms of ancestry, 16.2% were American, 8.7% were Irish, and 6.2% were English.
Of the 3,521 households, 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 17.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 28.3% were non-families, and 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals.
