Bostwick Summary

Bostwick is a small town located in Morgan County, Georgia, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Oconee River, about 25 miles east of Athens. The town was founded in 1820 and named after a local family. As of the 2010 census, the population of Bostwick was 545.

History

Bostwick was founded in 1820 by the Bostwick family, who had moved to the area from South Carolina. The town was named after the family, and the first post office was established in 1821. The town was incorporated in 1883.
In the late 19th century, Bostwick was a thriving agricultural community, with cotton, corn, and tobacco being the main crops. The town also had a sawmill, gristmill, and a cotton gin.
In the early 20th century, Bostwick began to decline as the railroad bypassed the town. The population decreased, and many of the businesses closed. In the 1950s, the town was revitalized with the construction of a new highway, which brought new businesses and residents to the area.
