Arlington Summary

Arlington is a city located in the southwestern corner of Georgia, United States. It is part of the Albany metropolitan area and is the county seat of Calhoun County. The city is situated on the Flint River, which is a major tributary of the Chattahoochee River. As of the 2010 census, the population of Arlington was 1,845.

History

Arlington was founded in 1854 by the Georgia General Assembly as the county seat of Calhoun County. The city was named after the plantation of William H. Arlington, who was a prominent local landowner. The city was incorporated in 1856 and was the first city in Calhoun County to be incorporated.
In the late 19th century, Arlington was a thriving agricultural center and was known for its cotton production. The city was also home to several sawmills and gristmills. During the Civil War, the city was occupied by Union forces and was the site of several skirmishes.

Geography

Arlington is located at 31°45'N 84°45'W (31.75, -84.75). The city has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land. The city is located in the southwestern corner of Georgia, near the border with Alabama. The Flint River runs through the city and is a major tributary of the Chattahoochee River.

Economy

The economy of Arlington is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large farms that produce cotton, corn, soybeans, and other crops. The city is also home to several manufacturing companies, including a paper mill, a furniture factory, and a plastics factory.
