History
Harrod was founded in 1837 by John Harrod, a Revolutionary War veteran. The village was originally known as Harrodstown, but the name was changed to Harrod in 1854. The village was incorporated in 1867.
Harrod was a major stop on the Wabash and Erie Canal, which ran through the village from 1843 to 1874. The canal was a major transportation route for goods and people, and it helped to spur the growth of the village.
