Silerton Summary
Silerton is a small town located in the state of Tennessee, in the United States. It is situated in the western part of the state, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The town is located in the county of Fayette, and is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The population of Silerton was estimated to be 1,845 in the year 2020.
History
Silerton was founded in 1820 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the nearby Siler Creek, which was named after a local Native American chief. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were cotton, corn, and tobacco. The town was also known for its production of whiskey, which was made from the local corn and rye.
In the late 19th century, Silerton began to experience a period of growth and development.
