Gibson Summary

Gibson is a small town located in Gibson County, Tennessee. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, approximately 80 miles northeast of Memphis. The town has a population of approximately 1,500 people and is the county seat of Gibson County.

History

Gibson was founded in 1823 and named after John Gibson, a Revolutionary War veteran. The town was originally known as Gibsonville, but the name was changed to Gibson in 1836. The town was incorporated in 1837 and has remained a small, rural community ever since.
Gibson was an important stop on the Memphis and Ohio Railroad, which was built in the late 1800s. The railroad brought economic growth to the area and helped to make Gibson a thriving agricultural center. The town was also home to several factories, including a cotton mill, a furniture factory, and a shoe factory.

Geography

Gibson is located in the northwest corner of Tennessee, approximately 80 miles northeast of Memphis. The town is situated in the rolling hills of the western part of the state, and is surrounded by farmland and forests. The town is located on the banks of the Obion River, which flows through the area.
