Giles County Summary
Giles County is located in the southern part of the state of Tennessee, in the United States. It is bordered by Lawrence County to the north, Maury County to the east, Marshall County to the south, and Lincoln County to the west. The county seat is Pulaski, and the largest city is Elkton. The county was named for William Branch Giles, a United States Senator from Virginia.
Geography
Giles County covers an area of 545 square miles, of which 544 square miles is land and 1 square mile is water. The county is located in the Highland Rim region of Tennessee, and is characterized by rolling hills and valleys. The Elk River runs through the county, and the county is home to several small lakes, including Richland Creek Lake, Richland Creek Reservoir, and Richland Creek Wildlife Management Area.

As of the 2010 census, the population of Giles County was 29,485. The racial makeup of the county was 90.2% White, 6.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.

Giles County is largely rural, and the economy is largely based on agriculture. The county is home to several large farms, and the main crops grown in the county are corn, soybeans, and wheat.
