The city is located approximately 50 miles (80 km) west of Boise, Idaho, and about 200 miles (320 km) east of Portland, Oregon.
Vale is surrounded by agricultural land, with the Owyhee Mountains to the east and the Blue Mountains to the west. The city is located in a semi-arid climate, with hot summers and cold winters.

Vale's economy is largely based on agriculture and related industries. The city is home to several large agricultural companies, including J.R. Simplot Company, which produces potatoes, onions, and other vegetables. Other agricultural products produced in the area include wheat, barley, alfalfa, and hay.

The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.04.
