Vale is located at an elevation of 2,890 feet (881 m) in the Treasure Valley region of eastern Oregon. It is situated along the Snake River, which forms the border between Oregon and Idaho. The city is located approximately 50 miles (80 km) west of Boise, Idaho, and about 200 miles (320 km) east of Portland, Oregon.
Vale is surrounded by agricultural land, with the Owyhee Mountains to the east and the Blue Mountains to the west. The city is located in a semi-arid climate, with hot summers and cold winters.
