Richland Summary
Richland, Oregon is a small town located in the Umatilla County of Oregon. It is situated on the banks of the Umatilla River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. Richland is a rural community with a population of just over 1,000 people.
History
Richland was founded in 1864 by a group of settlers from the Oregon Trail. The town was originally called “Umatilla City”, but was later changed to Richland in 1871. The name was chosen to honor the rich soil of the area.
The town was an important stop on the Oregon Trail, and was a popular destination for settlers heading west. Richland was also a major stop on the Union Pacific Railroad, which connected the town to the rest of the country.
