Mosby Summary

Mosby, Missouri is a small town located in Clay County, Missouri. It is situated about 20 miles north of Kansas City and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1887 and was named after Confederate General John Singleton Mosby. The population of Mosby was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Mosby is located at 39°14'45" North, 94°25'45" West (39.245833, -94.429167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Mosby is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including a dairy farm, a hog farm, and a poultry farm. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 294 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,817.5 people per square mile (700.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 785.0 per square mile (303.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
