Waverly, Kansas is a small town located in Coffey County, Kansas. It is situated on the banks of the Neosho River, approximately 20 miles south of the county seat of Burlington. The population of Waverly was estimated to be 545 in 2020.

History

Waverly was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after Waverly, Ohio, the hometown of one of the settlers. The town was originally located on the banks of the Neosho River, but was moved to its current location in 1873.
The town was incorporated in 1875 and quickly grew to become a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to a variety of businesses, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel.
In the early 1900s, Waverly was a popular stop on the Santa Fe Trail. The town was also home to a number of churches, including the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church, and the Christian Church.
