Greeley County Summary

Greeley County is located in the western part of the state of Kansas, in the Great Plains region of the United States. It is bordered by Wichita County to the north, Hamilton County to the east, Scott County to the south, and Wallace County to the west. The county seat is Tribune, and the largest city is Tribune. The county was named for Horace Greeley, a newspaper editor and politician.

Geography

Greeley County covers an area of 945 square miles, making it the fourth-largest county in Kansas. The county is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the east. The terrain is mostly grassland, with some cropland and wooded areas. The county is drained by the North Fork of the Smoky Hill River, which flows through the center of the county.
The climate of Greeley County is semi-arid, with hot summers and cold winters. The average annual temperature is 54°F, and the average annual precipitation is 22 inches.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,247 people living in Greeley County. The population density was 1.3 people per square mile.
