Tequesta Summary
Tequesta is a village located in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. It is located on the northernmost tip of the county, just south of Jupiter. The population was 5,629 at the 2010 census. Tequesta is part of the Miami metropolitan area, which was home to an estimated 6,012,331 people in 2015.
History
Tequesta was first settled in the late 19th century by William and Mary Tequesta, who were among the first settlers in the area. The Tequesta family owned a large tract of land in the area, which was eventually divided up and sold to other settlers. The village was officially incorporated in 1957.
Geography
Tequesta is located at 26°57'45" North, 80°7'45" West (26.9625, -80.1292). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2), all land.
Economy
Tequesta is a small village with a limited economy. The village is home to a few small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The village also has a few small industrial parks. The village is also home to a few marinas, which provide access to the nearby Intracoastal Waterway.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 5,629 people, 2,521 households, and 1,541 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,427.3 people per square mile (937.2/km2). There were 2,845 housing units at an average density of 1,223.3 per square mile (471.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 94.2% White, 1.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.
There were 2,521 households, out of which 22.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.76.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 19.2% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 32.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $60,938, and the median income for a family was $71,964. Males had a median income of $50,000 versus $35,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $35,945. About 3.2% of families and 4.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
