The town was founded in 1901 and was named after the first postmaster, William Fletcher. The population of Fletcher was 1,845 at the 2010 census, an increase of 8.3% from 1,704 at the 2000 census.

Fletcher is located at 34°37'25" North, 98°20'25" West (34.623750, -98.340278). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.
Economy
Fletcher is a small town with a limited economy. The main industries in the area are agriculture, oil and gas, and manufacturing. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small shops. The town also has a post office and a bank.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,704 people, 645 households, and 463 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,420.2 people per square mile (548.7/km2). There were 717 housing units at an average density of 593.2 per square mile (229.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 79.17% White, 0.35% African American, 11.90% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 5.76% from other races, and 2.74% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.90% of the population.
There were 645 households, out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
