Dolliver Summary
Dolliver is a small city located in Emmet County, Iowa. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, near the Minnesota border. The city has a population of just over 200 people, and is part of the Estherville Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Dolliver was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from Norway. The city was named after a prominent local politician, Senator Jonathan P. Dolliver. The city was incorporated in 1883, and the first post office was established in 1884.
In the early years, Dolliver was a farming community, with many of the settlers growing wheat, oats, and corn. The city also had a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
In the late 19th century, Dolliver began to experience a period of growth. The city was connected to the railroad in 1891, and the first bank was established in 1895. The city also had a newspaper, the Dolliver Times, which was published from 1895 to 1915.
In the early 20th century, Dolliver continued to grow. The city had a hotel, a movie theater, and a variety of other businesses. The city also had a school, which was established in 1910.
