Copperton is a small city located in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area and is located about 15 miles south of downtown Salt Lake City. The population of Copperton was 2,845 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Copperton is located at 40°35'17" North, 111°53'45" West (40.588, -111.896). It is situated in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, at an elevation of 4,717 feet (1,438 m).
The city covers an area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2), all of it land. It is bordered by the cities of West Jordan to the north, South Jordan to the east, and Herriman to the south and west.

Climate

Copperton has a humid continental climate, with cold, snowy winters and hot, dry summers. The average annual temperature is 45.2°F (7.3°C), and the average annual precipitation is 17.3 inches (44 cm).

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 2,845 people, 890 households, and 717 families residing in Copperton. The population density was 2,179.2 people per square mile (843.7/km2). There were 945 housing units at an average density of 725.4 per square mile (280.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 91.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.2% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.7% of the population.

Economy

Copperton is primarily a residential community, with most of its residents commuting to nearby cities for work. The city does have some light industry, including a few small manufacturing plants. The city is also home to a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services.
