Farmerville Summary
Farmerville is a town in Union Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,860 at the 2010 census. It is the parish seat of Union Parish.
History
The area that is now Farmerville was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Georgia. The town was originally known as Liberty Hill, but was later renamed Farmerville in honor of the area's first settler, William Farmer.
The town was officially incorporated in 1839 and has since grown to become the largest town in Union Parish.

Economy
The economy of Farmerville is largely based on agriculture and timber. The town is home to several large timber companies, as well as several smaller farms.
The town is also home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,837 people, 1,521 households, and 1,039 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,203.2 people per square mile (464.3/km2). There were 1,717 housing units at an average density of 541.2 per square mile (209.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 68.45% White, 29.90% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.19% of the population.
There were 1,521 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 17.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $25,938, and the median income for a family was $32,917. Males had a median income of $27,917 versus $19,917 for females. The per capita income for the town was $14,845.
