Slaughter Beach Summary

Slaughter Beach is a small town located in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. It is situated on the Delaware Bay, just south of the town of Milford. The town was named after a nearby creek, which was named after a local Native American chief. The population of Slaughter Beach was 545 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Slaughter Beach is located at 38°45'45" North, 75°25'45" West (38.7625, -75.4292). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Slaughter Beach is largely based on tourism and fishing. The town is home to several small businesses, including a bait and tackle shop, a seafood market, and a few restaurants. The town also has a marina, which provides access to the Delaware Bay.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 227 households, and 156 families residing in the town. The population density was 790.2 people per square mile (305.3/km2). There were 248 housing units at an average density of 359.2 per square mile (138.7/km2).
