Geography
Adams County is located in the Badlands region of North Dakota, and is characterized by rolling hills, grasslands, and badlands. The county is located in the Missouri Plateau, and is part of the Great Plains region. The county is drained by the Little Missouri River, which flows through the county from north to south. The county is also home to several small lakes, including Lake Tschida, Lake Ilo, and Lake Elsie.
The county has a total area of 1,845 square miles, of which 1,843 square miles is land and 2.2 square miles is water. The racial makeup of the county was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 945 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
