Almont Summary
Almont is a small city located in the state of North Dakota, United States. It is situated in the south-central part of the state, in the county of McLean. The city has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is part of the Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Almont was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from Minnesota. The city was named after Almont Township, which was named after the Almont River in Minnesota. The city was incorporated in 1887 and was the first city in McLean County.
The city was originally a farming community, but in the early 1900s, the railroad came to town and the city began to grow. The railroad brought new businesses and industries to the area, and the city began to thrive.
In the 1950s, the city experienced a population boom, as many people moved to the area to take advantage of the new jobs and opportunities. The city continued to grow throughout the 1960s and 1970s, and by the 1980s, Almont had become a thriving small city.
Geography
Almont is located in the south-central part of North Dakota, in the county of McLean. The city is situated on the banks of the Missouri River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies. The city is located about 25 miles south of Bismarck, the state capital.
