David City Summary

David City is a city located in Butler County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 2,945 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County.

Geography

David City is located at 41 14 25 North 97 7 25 West 41 240278 97 123611

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

History

David City was founded in 1871 by David Cook, a Civil War veteran. The city was named after him. The city was incorporated in 1873.
In the late 19th century, David City was a major railroad hub. The city was home to the Union Pacific Railroad's main repair shops. The shops employed hundreds of people and were a major economic force in the city.

Economy

The economy of David City is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several large farms and ranches. The city is also home to several manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer and a metal fabrication company.
