History
Ridgeway was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the nearby ridge, which was a prominent feature of the landscape. The first settlers were mostly farmers, and the village quickly grew to include a post office, a school, a church, and a general store.

Ridgeway is located at (42.717, -90.521). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 206 households, and 145 families residing in the village. The population density was 890.3 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 358.2 per square mile (138.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.18% White, 0.18% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.73% of the population.
There were 206 households, out of which 33.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females.
