History
Blair was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the Blair family, who were among the first settlers. The first post office was established in 1858.
In the late 19th century, Blair was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a sawmill, and a cheese factory.
Geography
Blair is located at 44°25'25"N 91°25'45"W (44.423, -91.429). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Blair is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and hay.
The village also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 213 households, and 145 families residing in the village. The population density was 890.0 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 229 housing units at an average density of 379.2 per square mile (146.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.
There were 213 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,845.
