Newbury, Vermont is a small town located in Orange County, Vermont. It is situated in the Connecticut River Valley, and is bordered by the towns of Bradford, Topsham, and Wells River. The town has a population of 1,717 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Newbury was first settled in 1763 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The town was originally called "Newburytown," and was named after the town of Newbury, Connecticut. The town was incorporated in 1781, and the first town meeting was held in 1782.
In the early 19th century, Newbury was a thriving agricultural community. The town was known for its dairy farms, and the town's economy was largely based on the production of cheese and butter. The town also had several sawmills, gristmills, and a tannery.
In the late 19th century, the town's economy shifted to manufacturing. The town was home to several factories, including a paper mill, a woolen mill, and a shoe factory. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to other towns in the area.

Geography

Newbury is located in the Connecticut River Valley, and is bordered by the towns of Bradford, Topsham, and Wells River. The town is situated on the western side of the Connecticut River, and is approximately 25 miles north of the state capital, Montpelier.
The town has a total area of 24.2 square miles, of which 24.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. The town is located in a hilly region, and is surrounded by forests and farmland.
