Rosedale Summary

Rosedale is a small town located in Bolivar County, Mississippi, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, approximately 25 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee. The population was 2,717 at the 2010 census.

History

Rosedale was founded in 1871 by the Mississippi and Tennessee Railroad. The town was named after the rose bushes that grew along the banks of the Mississippi River. The town was incorporated in 1876 and was the first town in Bolivar County to be incorporated.
Rosedale was a major cotton shipping center during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town was also home to several large cotton gins and warehouses. The town was also home to a large number of African-American residents who worked in the cotton industry.
In the early 20th century, Rosedale was a popular destination for African-American musicians and entertainers. The town was home to several juke joints and blues clubs, and was a popular stop on the "Chitlin' Circuit" for African-American performers.
