Pittsboro, Mississippi is a small town located in Calhoun County, Mississippi. It is situated in the northeast corner of the state, approximately 30 miles from the state capital of Jackson. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the larger Calhoun County area, which has a population of approximately 14,000.
History
Pittsboro was founded in 1837 and named after William Pitts, a prominent local landowner. The town was originally a small farming community, but it soon grew to become a major trading center for the surrounding area. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a cotton gin, a sawmill, and a gristmill.
In the late 19th century, Pittsboro was a major stop on the Mississippi Central Railroad. This allowed the town to become a major shipping center for the region.
