Columbus AFB Summary

Columbus Air Force Base (CAFB) is located in Lowndes County, Mississippi, approximately 10 miles east of the city of Columbus. It is home to the 14th Flying Training Wing, which is part of Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The base is also home to the 14th Operations Group, the 14th Maintenance Group, the 14th Mission Support Group, and the 14th Medical Group.

History

CAFB was established in 1941 as a training base for the United States Army Air Corps. It was originally named Columbus Army Flying School and was used to train pilots for World War II.
