Twin Lakes Cdp is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Adams County, Colorado. It is situated in the northern part of the county, just south of the city of Thornton. The population of Twin Lakes Cdp was 4,845 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Twin Lakes Cdp was originally inhabited by the Arapaho and Cheyenne Native American tribes. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1800s, and the area was officially established as Twin Lakes Cdp in the early 1900s. The name of the CDP is derived from the two small lakes located in the area.

Geography

Twin Lakes Cdp is located at 39°53'25"N 104°59'45"W (39.890278, -104.995833). It has an elevation of 5,093 feet (1,551 m). The CDP covers an area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2), all of which is land.

Economy

The economy of Twin Lakes Cdp is largely based on agriculture and light industry. The area is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. The CDP also has a few small manufacturing plants.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 4,845 people, 1,845 households, and 1,323 families residing in Twin Lakes Cdp. The population density was 2,093.3 people per square mile (807.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 79.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 4.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.3% from other races, and 3.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.3% of the population.
Out of the 1,845 households, 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.14.
The median age in Twin Lakes Cdp was 34.2 years. 24.7% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 28.3% were from 25 to 44; 25.7% were from 45 to 64; and 12.6% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the CDP was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.
