Wilton Summary

Wilton is a small town located in the state of Alabama, in the United States. It is situated in the southwestern part of the state, in the county of Wilcox. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is located about 30 miles south of the city of Montgomery.

History

Wilton was founded in 1819 by a group of settlers from Georgia. The town was named after Wilcox County, which was named after General Mark Wilcox, a Revolutionary War hero. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were cotton and corn. In the late 19th century, Wilton began to develop into a small industrial center, with the establishment of a sawmill, a gristmill, and a cotton gin.
In the early 20th century, Wilton experienced a period of growth and prosperity. The town was home to several businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a general store, and a post office. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to other towns in the area.

Geography

Wilton is located in the southwestern part of Alabama, in Wilcox County. The town is situated on the banks of the Alabama River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and forests. The town is located about 30 miles south of the city of Montgomery, and is about an hour and a half drive from the state capital of Birmingham.
