Hytop Summary

Hytop is a small town located in Jackson County, Alabama. It is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is part of the larger Jackson County area. The town has a population of approximately 500 people and is located about 20 miles south of Scottsboro, Alabama.

History

Hytop was founded in 1887 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Scottsboro. The town was named after a local creek, which was named after a Cherokee chief named Hytop. The town was originally a farming community, and the settlers grew cotton, corn, and other crops. The town also had a sawmill and a gristmill.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and develop. A post office was established in 1906, and a school was built in 1910. The town also had a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a few other businesses.
