Hayneville is a town located in Lowndes County, Alabama, United States. It is the county seat of Lowndes County. The population was 1,314 at the 2010 census.
History
Hayneville was founded in 1820 and named for General John A. Hayne, a Revolutionary War hero. The town was incorporated in 1821 and was the first county seat of Lowndes County. The town was a major trading center for the surrounding area and was known for its cotton production.
During the Civil War, Hayneville was the site of a major battle between Union and Confederate forces. The Battle of Hayneville was fought on April 16, 1865 and resulted in a Confederate victory.
In the late 19th century, Hayneville was a major stop on the Montgomery and Mobile Railroad. The town was also home to several cotton mills and other industries.

Hayneville is located at 32°20'25" North, 86°37'17" West (32.340278, -86.621389). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

The racial makeup of the town was 57.90% White, 40.45% Black or African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.76% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 1.68% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 517 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.2% were married couples living together, 21.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 30.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.06.
