Henry County is located in the southeastern corner of Alabama, and is part of the Dothan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county was established in 1819 and named for Patrick Henry, a Revolutionary War hero and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. The county seat is Abbeville, and the largest city is Headland.
Geography
Henry County covers an area of 545 square miles, and is bordered by Dale County to the north, Houston County to the east, Geneva County to the south, and Covington County to the west. The county is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the northern part. The Choctawhatchee River forms the western border of the county, and the Pea River forms the eastern border. The county is mostly covered in pine and hardwood forests, with some agricultural land in the northern part.

As of the 2010 census, Henry County had a population of 17,302. The racial makeup of the county was 79.2% White, 18.3% Black or African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. 1.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
