Sisquoc Summary

Sisquoc is a small unincorporated community located in Santa Barbara County, California. It is situated in the Santa Ynez Valley, approximately 8 miles east of the city of Santa Maria. The population of Sisquoc was estimated to be around 200 people in 2000.

History

The area of Sisquoc was originally inhabited by the Chumash people, who were the original inhabitants of the Santa Barbara region. The Chumash people lived in the area for thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans. The first Europeans to settle in the area were Spanish missionaries, who established the Mission Santa Ines in 1804. The mission was located near the present-day town of Solvang, and the Chumash people were relocated to the mission.
In the late 19th century, the area was settled by ranchers and farmers, who established the town of Sisquoc. The town was named after the nearby Sisquoc River, which was named by the Spanish settlers. The town was a small agricultural community, and the main crops grown in the area were grapes, olives, and citrus fruits.

Geography

Sisquoc is located in the Santa Ynez Valley, which is a large valley located in the central part of Santa Barbara County. The valley is surrounded by the Santa Ynez Mountains to the north and the San Rafael Mountains to the south. The valley is approximately 8 miles wide and 25 miles long.
The climate in Sisquoc is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The average annual temperature is around 65°F, and the average annual precipitation is around 20 inches.

Economy
