Oroville East is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Butte County, California, United States. The population was 4,845 at the 2010 census, up from 4,521 at the 2000 census. Oroville East is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, approximately 8 miles east of the city of Oroville.
Geography
Oroville East is located at 39°35'17" North, 121°32'17" West (39.588, -121.538). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.2 square miles, all of it land.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 4,521 people, 1,619 households, and 1,213 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,077.2 people per square mile (415.9/km^2). There were 1,717 housing units at an average density of 412.2 per square mile (159.2/km^2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 81.2% White, 0.9% African American, 3.2% Native American, 0.9% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 8.7% from other races, and 5.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 16.2% of the population.
There were 1,619 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 13.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% were non-families. 19.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.17.
