Malone Summary
Malone, Washington is a small town located in the northeastern corner of Washington State, near the Canadian border. It is situated in the Pend Oreille County, and is part of the Spokane Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is known for its rural charm and small-town atmosphere.
History
Malone was founded in 1891 by a group of settlers from the Midwest. The town was named after a local Native American chief, Chief Malone. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its abundance of natural resources, including timber, fish, and game. The town quickly grew, and by the early 1900s, it had become a bustling logging and farming community.
In the early 1900s, the town was home to several sawmills, a flour mill, and a creamery. The town also had a hotel, a general store, and a post office. The town was also home to a number of churches, including the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church, and the Catholic Church.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline due to the Great Depression. The sawmills and other businesses closed, and many of the town’s residents moved away. However, the town was able to survive, and by the 1950s, it had become a popular tourist destination.
