Duchesne is located at 40°9'25" North, 110°30'25" West (40.156944, -110.506944). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.
History
Duchesne was founded in 1891 by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The city was named after Pierre-Jean de Smet, a Jesuit missionary who visited the area in the 1840s. The city was incorporated in 1905.

The racial makeup of the city was 91.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.7% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.2% of the population.
There were 590 households, out of which 37.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.3% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% were non-families. 22.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.41.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 30.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
