Idanha Summary
Idanha is a small town located in Marion County, Oregon, United States. It is situated in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, approximately 25 miles southeast of Salem, the state capital. The population of Idanha was estimated to be around 200 in 2020.
History
Idanha was founded in 1891 by a group of settlers from the Midwest. The town was named after the nearby Idanha Hotel, which was built in 1883. The hotel was a popular destination for travelers and settlers, and the town grew around it.
In the early 1900s, Idanha was a thriving logging and farming community. The town had a sawmill, a general store, a post office, a school, and several churches. The town was also home to a number of saloons and other businesses.
In the 1920s, the logging industry began to decline and the town's population began to dwindle. By the 1940s, the population had dropped to around 100.
