Valley Falls is located at 42°53'25" North, 73°27'45" West (42.890278, -73.4625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
History
Valley Falls was first settled in 1790 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The village was originally known as "Hoosick Falls" and was later renamed "Valley Falls" in 1820. The village was incorporated in 1848.
Valley Falls was an important industrial center in the 19th century. The village was home to several mills, including a paper mill, a cotton mill, and a woolen mill. The mills provided employment for many of the village's residents.

There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.2% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $36,250 versus $25,000 for females.
