Sedillo Summary
Sedillo, New Mexico is a small unincorporated community located in the northern part of the state, in Torrance County. It is situated at the intersection of State Road 41 and State Road 344, about 25 miles northeast of Albuquerque. The population of Sedillo was estimated to be around 1,000 in 2020.
History
Sedillo was founded in the late 1800s by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Los Lunas. The settlers named the town after a local rancher, Don Jose Sedillo. The town was originally a farming and ranching community, but it soon became a trading center for the surrounding area. In the early 1900s, the town was home to a post office, a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a school.
In the 1920s, the town began to grow and develop. The first paved road was built in the area in 1925, and the first telephone service was established in 1927. The town also had its own newspaper, the Sedillo News, which was published from 1927 to 1932.
