Northmoor Summary
Northmoor is a small city located in Clay County, Missouri, United States. It is situated on the Missouri River, just north of Kansas City. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Northmoor was founded in 1887 by the Northmoor Land Company. The company was formed by a group of investors from Kansas City, Missouri, who wanted to develop the area for residential and commercial use. The town was named after the Northmoor Land Company.
The first post office was established in 1887 and the first school was built in 1888. The town was incorporated in 1895.
In the early 1900s, Northmoor was a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a general store, a blacksmith shop, a livery stable, a barber shop, a drug store, a hardware store, a furniture store, a bakery, a meat market, a shoe store, a millinery shop, a bar, and a movie theater.

Northmoor is located at 39°14'25" North, 94°30'45" West (39.240278, -94.5125). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.

Northmoor's economy is largely based on agriculture and light industry. The city is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a gas station.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,845 people, 717 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,619.2 people per square mile (1,011.2/km2). There were 762 housing units at an average density of 1,072.2 per square mile (413.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 717 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.17.
