History
Prairieburg was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the prairie grass that grew in the area. The first post office was established in 1856.
In the late 19th century, Prairieburg was a thriving agricultural community. The town had a general store, a blacksmith shop, a school, a church, and a grist mill. The town also had a railroad station, which was used to transport goods and passengers.
In the early 20th century, the town began to decline as the railroad station closed and the population decreased. By the 1950s, the town had become a virtual ghost town.
