Mansfield Summary
Mansfield is a city located in Scott County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Scott County.
History
Mansfield was founded in 1876 and named after the town of Mansfield, Ohio. The town was incorporated in 1883. The first post office was established in 1877.
Mansfield was the site of a major battle during the Civil War. On March 7, 1864, Confederate forces under General Sterling Price attacked a Union force of about 1,000 men under the command of Colonel William F. Slemons. The Union forces were driven back and the Confederates captured the town. The battle was known as the Battle of Mansfield.

Mansfield is a small rural town with a population of 1,845. The economy is largely based on agriculture and timber. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small businesses.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 708.3 per square mile (273.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $25,938, and the median income for a family was $31,250. Males had a median income of $25,000 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,945. About 14.2% of families and 17.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 22.2% of those under age 18 and 16.2% of those age 65 or over.
