Pigeon Falls Summary
Pigeon Falls is a small village located in Trempealeau County, Wisconsin, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Trempealeau River, near the Mississippi River. The population was 845 at the 2010 census.
History
Pigeon Falls was founded in 1856 by a group of Norwegian immigrants. The village was named after the wild pigeons that were abundant in the area. The first settlers were mostly farmers, and the village grew slowly. In 1872, the first post office was established, and the village was incorporated in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Pigeon Falls was a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a creamery, a cheese factory, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel. The village also had a school, a church, and a library.
Geography
Pigeon Falls is located at 44°14'17" North, 91°25'45" West (44.238, -91.429). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

The economy of Pigeon Falls is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several dairy farms, as well as a number of small businesses. The village also has a few restaurants and a grocery store.

As of the census of 2010, there were 845 people, 339 households, and 233 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,200.7 people per square mile (463.3/km2). There were 369 housing units at an average density of 522.9 per square mile (201.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 339 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
