History
The area around Ephrata was first settled in the late 1800s by homesteaders. The town was officially founded in 1906 and named after Ephrata, Pennsylvania. The city was incorporated in 1910.
In the early 1900s, Ephrata was a major stop on the Great Northern Railway. The railroad brought in many new settlers and businesses, and the town grew rapidly. The railroad also helped to make Ephrata a major agricultural center in the region.

Ephrata is located at 47°20′N 119°32′W (47.33, -119.53). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.3 square miles (11.2 km2), all of it land.

Ephrata is a major agricultural center in the region. The city is home to several large farms and ranches, as well as a number of smaller farms. The city is also home to several food processing plants, including a cannery and a meat packing plant.

As of the census of 2010, there were 7,664 people, 2,845 households, and 1,845 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,788.3 people per square mile (692.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 81.2% White, 0.7% African American, 1.2% Native American, 0.9% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 13.3% from other races, and 3.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 22.2% of the population.
There were 2,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $35,938, and the median income for a family was $41,944. Males had a median income of $35,938 versus $25,938 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,845.
