History

Harleigh was founded in 1891 by the Harleigh Coal Company. The company was founded by John J. Harleigh, a prominent coal baron in the area. The company was responsible for the development of the borough, which was named after John J. Harleigh. The borough was incorporated in 1895.
The Harleigh Coal Company was a major employer in the area, and the borough was home to many miners and their families. The company operated several mines in the area, and the borough was home to a number of coal-related businesses.

In the borough, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
