Strongsville Summary

Strongville, Ohio is a city located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. It is a suburb of Cleveland and is located about 20 miles south of the city. The population of Strongsville was 44,750 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Strongsville was first settled in 1818 by John Stoughton, a Revolutionary War veteran. The area was originally known as Stoughtonville, but the name was changed to Strongsville in 1832 in honor of John Stoughton's son, John Strong. The village was incorporated in 1854 and became a city in 1961.

Geography

Strongsville is located at 41°17′N 81°49′W (41.28, -81.81). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.7 square miles (43.3 km2), of which 16.6 square miles (43.0 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km2) is water.

Economy

Strongsville is home to many businesses, including the headquarters of the Cleveland Clinic, the world's largest private medical center. The city is also home to several large retail stores, including Walmart, Target, and Home Depot. The city is also home to several industrial and manufacturing companies, including Eaton Corporation, Parker Hannifin, and Lincoln Electric.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 44,750 people, 17,845 households, and 12,845 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,689.3 people per square mile (1,037.2/km2). There were 18,845 housing units at an average density of 1,128.3 per square mile (435.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.2% White, 3.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 2.3% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the population.
There were 17,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $62,845, and the median income for a family was $76,845. Males had a median income of $51,845 versus $37,845 for females. The per capita income for the city was $30,845. About 3.2% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
