Russia Summary

Russia, Ohio is a small village located in Shelby County, Ohio, United States. It is situated about 25 miles north of Dayton and about 50 miles south of Toledo. The village has a population of 1,092 as of the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Russia was first settled in 1817 by a group of German immigrants. The village was originally known as German Station, but was later renamed Russia in 1837. The name was chosen to honor the Russian immigrants who had recently arrived in the area.
The village was incorporated in 1845 and was home to a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. The village also had a post office, a school, and a church.

Russia is located in western Shelby County, Ohio, at the intersection of State Route 29 and State Route 47. The village is situated on the banks of the Miami River, which flows through the area.
