Granville Summary
Granville is a village located in Licking County, Ohio, United States. It is situated about 30 miles east of Columbus, the state capital. The population was 5,646 at the 2010 census. Granville is known for its historic architecture, quaint downtown, and its proximity to Denison University.
History
Granville was founded in 1805 by a group of settlers from Granville, Massachusetts. The village was named after the Massachusetts town, and was incorporated in 1821. Granville was a stop on the Underground Railroad, and the village was home to several abolitionists.
In the late 19th century, Granville was a popular summer resort destination for wealthy families from Columbus and other nearby cities. The village was home to several grand hotels, including the Granville Inn, which was built in 1812 and is still in operation today.

Granville is located at 40°3'25" North, 82°30'25" West (40.056944, -82.506944). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of it land.
Economy
Granville is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The village is also home to Denison University, which is a major employer in the area. The university has an enrollment of over 2,000 students and employs over 500 faculty and staff.

The racial makeup of the village was 94.2% White, 1.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 0.5% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 1,945 households, out of which 24.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.2% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 18.2% under the age of 18, 33.2% from 18 to 24, 20.2% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 24 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $45,000, and the median income for a family was $60,000. Males had a median income of $41,000 versus $30,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,000. About 5.2% of families and 11.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
