East Canton Summary

East Canton is a village located in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Canton-Massillon, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

East Canton was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The village was originally known as East Union, but the name was changed to East Canton in 1832. The village was incorporated in 1867.
East Canton was a farming community until the early 20th century, when the village began to industrialize. The first industry to locate in East Canton was the East Canton Foundry, which opened in 1902.
