History

The area that is now Webster was originally part of the Town of Northfield, which was formed in 1812. In 1818, the Town of Northfield was divided into two towns, Webster and Penfield. The Town of Webster was named after Daniel Webster, a famous orator and statesman.
The first settlers in the area were the family of John and Abigail (Babcock) Webster, who arrived in 1810. The Webster family was among the first settlers in the area and their homestead was located on the east side of the Irondequoit Creek.
In 1823, the first schoolhouse was built in the town. The first church was built in 1825 and the first post office was established in 1827.
In 1834, the Town of Webster was divided into two towns, Webster and Penfield. The Town of Webster was further divided in 1855, when the Town of Irondequoit was formed.
In 1853, the Rochester and Syracuse Railroad was built through the town, connecting Rochester and Syracuse. This railroad was later replaced by the New York Central Railroad in 1869.
In 1871, the Town of Webster was incorporated as a village. The village was later incorporated as a city in 1915.

Webster is located in the northwest corner of Monroe County, New York. The town is bordered by the towns of Penfield, Irondequoit, and Ontario. The town is located on the south shore of Lake Ontario and is approximately 20 miles east of Rochester.
The town has a total area of 33.2 square miles, of which 32.9 square miles is land and 0.3 square miles is water. The town is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York and is home to several small lakes, including Irondequoit Bay, Round Lake, and Webster Lake.
